A 32.768KHz passive crystal oscillator is usually connected to the external MCU of smart meter to provide a high-precision real-time clock for the meter. Since the accuracy of the real-time clock affects the accuracy of metering data, smart meters require high precision of the crystal, usually requiring the frequency difference at room temperature to be controlled within ±20ppm.
