Microchip Releases Latest TrustAnchor Security ICs to Fully Meet Higher Automotive Safety Certification Requirements

2024/04/25 01:28:04 125

As automobiles become more connected and technologically advanced, the need for enhanced security measures increases. The latest cybersecurity specifications from governments and automotive OEMs are beginning to include larger key sizes and the Edwards Curve ed25519 algorithm standard. In response, Microchip Technology Inc. recently introduced the newest Trust Anchor Security IC, the TA101, to address complex automotive and embedded security use cases, supporting large keys up to ECC P521, SHA512, RSA-4K and AES256. AES256 with higher security strengths that exceed current standards and allow for future adjustments while maintaining backward compatibility with smaller keys. TA101 offers CryptoAuthentication™ industrial grade security ICs and CryptoAutomotive™ security ICs to support AEC-Q100 Level 1 compliant devices. devices.

The TA101, the latest device in Microchip's security IC portfolio, is designed to support automotive security, data center and industrial applications. The cryptographic companion device works with a microcontroller (MCU) or microprocessor (MPU) to handle cryptographic functions including public key infrastructure, certificate management, and secure key storage requirements. The TA101 provides easy patch updates, message authentication, transport layer security (TLS), secure boot, high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP), firmware updates, security upgrades, ownership transfer, key management and WPC Qi® 1.3 authentication.

It is critical for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to not only comply with current standards, but also to stay one step ahead of the security curve," said Nuri Dagdeviren, corporate vice president, Secure Computing Business Unit, Microchip. By introducing 256-bit security strength correlation keys, the TA101 provides great key strength diversity for today's and tomorrow's applications. In addition, Microchip's modular approach to security solutions allows customers to select the best-sized and priced MCU for the module's focused application, while standardizing on a single security solution that meets virtually all security requirements."

By providing off-chip components that handle secure boot and message authentication, the TA101 provides an alternative architecture for on-chip multi-core MCU/MPU management for in-vehicle networks. Compatible with a wide range of MCUs or MPUs, the device provides a flexible solution that helps reduce cost and time-to-market.

The TA101 provides the U.S. Commercial National Safety Algorithm (CNSA) required 1.0 algorithm suite and the ed25519 curve algorithm in a single IC.The TA101 is pre-programmed and pre-configured in Microchip's Common Criteria ALC_DVS.2 certified facility, reducing the risk associated with safety code development and implementation. The TA101 is supported by the CryptoAuth Trusted Platform Development Kit and multiple TA101 socket boards with mikroBUS™ connectors, which can also be used with the mikroBUS Xplained Pro Expansion Boards, which can be connected to a variety of Xplained Pro boards for developing SAM MCU applications.

The TA101 AUTOSAR® Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL) is ASPICE Level 2 compliant. Microchip's CryptoAuthentication software library seamlessly integrates into industry-standard operating systems or customized software stacks for cryptographic functions. The Trusted Platform Development Suite (TPDS) can be used to configure prototypes and prepare them for configuration at Microchip's secure factory.

Availability and Pricing

The TA101 starts at $1.60/unit in 10,000-piece quantities. For more information or to make a purchase, contact a Microchip sales representative, an authorized worldwide distributor, or visit the Microchip Purchasing and Customer Service Web site at www.microchipdirect.com.
