Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT hacker and engineer Limman "Ladyada" Fried. Her goal is to create the best place to learn electronics online and design the best products for manufacturers of all ages and skill levels. Adafruit has more than 100 employees in downtown New York with more than 50,000 square feet of facilities. Adafruit has expanded its range of products to include tools, equipment and electronics that Limor hand-picks, tests and approves before entering Adafruit stores. Limor, the first female engineer to be featured on the cover of WIWIRED magazine, was awarded the title of Entrepreneur of the Year by Entrepreneur magazine and was featured in the "Make:Vol. 57. Ladyada is a founding member of the New York Industrial Enterprise Advisory Board.
